Grams to ounces
The conversion factor is fixed and exact:
1 gram = 0.0352739619 ounces
1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams
These ounces are avoirdupois ounces — the standard US/UK weight measure used for food, packages, and most everyday weights. (Troy ounces, used for precious metals, are slightly heavier — about 31.103 g.)

FAQ
Is this for cooking?
Yes — most recipes that switch between metric and imperial use avoirdupois ounces. Note that fluid ounces are a different unit (volume, not mass) and don't convert directly to grams; the relationship depends on the substance's density.
What about troy ounces?
Troy ounces are used for gold, silver, and other precious metals. 1 troy oz = 31.1035 g. This calculator does NOT use troy ounces — use a dedicated gold/silver weight converter for those.
Why the awkward number?
The avoirdupois ounce is defined as exactly 28.349523125 grams. The reciprocal (1 / 28.349523125 ≈ 0.0352739619) gives the grams-to-ounces factor.
