The volume of a box formula
It is possible to calculate the volume of a rectangular container if you know its dimensions (width, length, height). The formula for volume box is width x height x length.
Horizontal Cylinder Container Tank
Total volume in cylinder-shaped tanks is the area A at the end of the circular circle times the length l. A = π r2 where radius r equals 1/2 the diameter or d/2.
V(tank) = π r^2 l
Calculate the horizontal cylinder tank volume by finding the area (A), of a circle segment and multiplying this by the length (l).
Vertical Cylinder Tank
Total volume in cylinder-shaped tanks is the area A at the circular end divided by the height, H. A = π r^2 and r is the radius, which is equal to d/2.
V(tank) = π r^2 h
The vertical cylinder tank has a lower volume, but the same radius, and the same diameter, as the cylinder. However, the fill height or height is the actual height.
V(fill) = π r^2 f
Rectangle Tank
The total volume for a rectangular prism-shaped container is length * width * height.
V(tank) = lwh
A rectangular tank with a filled volume is one that has a shorter height but the same width and length. The fill height (or f) is the new height.
V(fill) = lwf
Horizontal Oval Tank
The volume of an oval tank may be calculated by finding A at the end, which’s a shape, and multiplying it times l. A = π r^2 + 2 r a. This proves that r = h/2 and a= w – h. Where w>h must always remain true.
V(tank) = (πr^2 + 2ra)l
If we assume that the horizontal oval tank's fill volume is divided into two halves by a rectangular tank, it will be easier to calculate. Fill volume can then be calculated for
1) a Horizontal Cylinder Tank, where l = l, f = f, and d = h
2) a Square Tank where L = l. F = f. and the rectangle width W is a = w -h of the oval tanks.
V(fill) = V(fill-horizontal-cylinder) + V(fill-rectangle)
Vertical Oval tank
To calculate the volume in an oval tank, take the area of the end (the shape) and multiply it by the length. Then, it is possible to prove that A = π r^2+2ra and r = w/2, respectively, and that a = h-w where h>w must always match.
V(tank) = (π r^2 + 2ra)l
Horizontal Capsule Tank
A capsule can be described as a sphere having a diameter of d divided in half, separated by a circle of diameter d with height a.
Where r = d/2
V(sphere) = (4/3) π r¨3
V(cylinder) = π r^2 a
V(capsule) = π r^2 ((4/3)r + a)
The volume of fill in horizontal capsules can be calculated using the Circular Segment method for Horizontal Cylinder. The same approach is used for calculations of a Spherical Cap for the sphere portion of the tank.
V(spherical cap) = (1/3)π h^2 (3R - h)
Vertical Capsule Storage Tank
For the calculation of the volume in a vertical capsule tank, consider the capsule to be a sphere of size that is cut in half and divided by a circular height a.
Where r=d/2
V(capsule) = πr^2((4/3)r + a)
