What are calories?

A calorie can be described as a unit of energy. Calories are often used to measure the power of food and beverages.
It would help if you ate fewer calories per day than your body burns for weight loss. In contrast, you must consume more calories than your body uses each day to gain weight.

Calorie counting for weight loss

A great way to lose weight is to reduce your calories each day. It can be challenging to figure out how many calories you should consume. This is due to several factors including your age, gender, size, activity level, and sexual orientation.
Sustainability is the most crucial aspect of any weight loss strategy. Many experts recommend that you reduce your calorie intake to achieve sustainable weight loss.
One example is that many diets claim to limit calories intake to 1,000-1,200 calories per person daily. This is too low for most healthy people. Not only does it have side effects, but it also increases the risk of nutritional deficiencies. It can also cause metabolic changes, which make long-term weight maintenance more difficult.

Women's daily calories requirement

Women's calorie needs can vary depending on their size, activity level, and age.
Women between the ages of 19 and 30 require between 2,000 and 2,400 calories daily to maintain their weight.
The energy requirements of women between 31 and 59 years old are slightly lower. Women in this age range should consume between 1,800 and 2,200 calories daily to maintain their body weight.
Women over 60 years old need fewer calories and usually require between 1,600-22,000 calories daily to maintain their weight.

Men's daily calories requirement

The calorie needs of men can vary, just as for women.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans most recently estimates that men between 19-30 years old should consume 2,400-3,00 calories per day to maintain their weight.
As you get older, your energy requirements decrease. For men aged 31 to 39, they need between 2,200 and 3,000 calories per daily to maintain their weight. Men over 60 require between 2,000 and 2,600 calories.
